Formula 1 - Up Close With Mark Webber.Question: Apart from driving a Formula One car, what is your favourite buzz?

Mark Webber: Probably riding a motorbike.

Question: Who is your dream date?

Formula One leader Lewis Hamilton takes it slow in rift with father

Posted in : Formula One Drivers

(added few years ago!)

Lewis Hamilton has admitted there are still problems to overcome in his relationship with his father, Anthony, four months after the two men became professionally estranged. It was in March, two weeks before the start of the Formula One season in Bahrain, that Lewis announced he was no longer managed by his father and the pair did not speak for several weeks.

Formula One leader Lewis Hamilton takes it slow in rift with father

Hamilton has invited Anthony to the British grand prix at Silverstone next Sunday, but said: "Everything was not 100% in the past. But we're definitely continuing to build on the relationship and things are moving slowly. We're letting things take their time and move progressively and move naturally, rather than forcing things. It's generally positive. He's always sending me positive messages before the race and we spoke before the race in Montreal and pretty much every week. Since quite a long time ago now we've had a message every week."

Formula One racing out in force for Goodwood

Posted in : Formula One Gossips

(added few years ago!)

The UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed always attracts a plethora of Formula One drivers and machinery, and with an impressive 2010 line-up, this year will be no different. The annual event, which this year celebrates the 60th anniversary of the FIA Formula One World Championship, takes place in the grounds of Sussex’s Goodwood House.

McLaren team mates - and 2008 and 2009 world champions respectively - Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are among those at the top of the bill. Button is looking forward to driving one of Alain Prost’s classic McLarens, the MP4-2C, as well the more recent MP4-23 on Saturday, while Hamilton will also take charge of an MP4-23 - the car with which he won his title - on Sunday.

Formula One puts focus back on track

Posted in : Formula One Gossips

(added few years ago!)

Martin Whitmarsh has had a spring in his step of late, and not just because his McLaren team are leading both Formula One championships into next week's British Grand Prix. After a tough 2009, the battle-hardened Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) chairman is enjoying a season where the main focus is the contest on the track rather than the fighting in the grand prix paddock.

A year ago, the teams were split and the threat of a breakaway series hung over the sport but that seems like ancient history now, even if some participants are still wary of tempting fate. The departure of Max Mosley as International Automobile Federation (FIA) president, replaced by former Ferrari boss Jean Todt last October, has changed the landscape as has a new commercial deal with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

Valencia thriller puts Sebastian Vettel back on track

Posted in : Formula One Gossips

(added few years ago!)

Sunday's European Grand Prix produced a brilliant drive to victory from Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in Valencia. The German controlled the race at will after a hairy first couple of corners and it was a pivotal win. The German can taste a potential world championship again - "We're back on track," in his words.

Vettel delivered a slow and strategic formation lap, and then got off to a perfect start. But he was cautious into the braking zone of Turn Two and a fast-starting Lewis Hamilton tried to seize his main chance to take control of the race. They touched, Vettel was fortunate not to spin, and Hamilton damaged his front wing, which he would be lucky enough to change 'free of charge' under the safety car.

Jenson Button on the verge of claiming the Formula One Championship No.1 lead Again

Posted in : Formula One Gossips

(added few years ago!)

Jenson Button, the British Formula One driver currently signed to McLaren Mercedes, and the reigning Formula One World Drivers' Champion, had to settle for second best in the last two races; first which he raced last month in Turkey and the other one in Canada on Sunday. Both the Grand Prix races were won by Button’s fellow McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton.

The back to back one-two finishes between the two McLaren drivers means that there are just three points which are separating the both of them at the top of the drivers ranking. It is followed by Red Bulls driver, Mark Webber who is just 6 points behind Hamilton and 3 points behind Buttons.

In the constructors table, McLaren is 22 points ahead of Red Bull and at the moment, he is leading the way. No one could have imagined that previous to the race in Istanbul, just over a fortnight ago, Buttons was way behind in the ranking.

Formula 1 - Sebastian Vettel Fastest in Second Practice at MontrealRed Bull’s Sebastian Vettel headed Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso in second practice at the Canadian Grand Prix as McLaren failed to repeat their early pace.

Formula 1 AT&T Williams Canadian Grand Prix Preview

Posted in : Formula One Gossips

(added few years ago!)

Everyone in the team is really looking forward to going back to Montreal. Not only is it a great city which fully gets behind Formula One when we come to town, but the circuit always produces an exciting Grand Prix. Montreal is one of the few street circuits we race on.

But it is a completely different proposition to somewhere like Monaco because the track is dominated by long, high speed straights. As such, aero efficiency is always at a premium and we will be taking new wings to give us optimum performance.

The layout comprises 15 corners, a mix of low and medium speed, so we also have to find a good balance and grip level, while good traction out of the corners is also important. The stop-start nature of the track is heavy on the brakes so we will have new brake ducts for this race as well. Our target for Canada will be top ten grid slots in qualifying and points finishes for both cars.

Hamilton says he won’t try aggressive tactics on Button

Posted in : Formula One Gossips

(added few years ago!)

McLaren's Formula One racing ace Lewis Hamilton has said that he would not barge team-mate Jenson Button on to the sidelines in his chase to recapture the world title. Hamilton and Button had come close to each other's car during the Turkish Grand Prix, but managed to steer clear of a collision.

The comment also comes after Red Bull team-mates Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber locked wheels and crashed out of the race. "Jenson and I both want to win, but not in an aggressive manner. The fighting won't happen with me and Jenson," The Daily Star quoted Button, as saying.

"We got a one-two in Turkey and it was a professional drive from two team-mates. You couldn't ask for more from a partnership. We are both world champions, we're both professionals and we both have a huge amount of respect for each other," he added.
