Robert Kubica will gladly accept the Formula One world title even it comes one year ahead of plan.

“Whatever happens, we have to do all we can to make the best of the situation. After all, who knows if I will ever get a chance like this again. One thing is for sure I'll be giving it everything,” he told the website of his BMW-Sauber team in an interview published on Thursday.

Kubica was speaking four days after getting the first win for himself, his home country Poland and BMW-Sauber in the sport at the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday in Montreal, with German team-mate Nick Heidfeld placing second to round off the historic event.

Victory was made easier because McLaren's Lewis Hamilton drove into the Ferrari of world champion Kimi Raikkonen in a bizarre pit lane accident, which forced both to retire.

Kubica also moved to the top of the drivers' standings after seven of 18 season races with the win.

“I did not expect to be leading the championship after seven races, as our car is not the absolute fastest on the grid.

“However, we have total reliability. We were still experiencing a few problems in this area last year, but since then we've made huge improvements.

“Of course, consistency is an important factor, and I hope that we are also able to make further improvements to the car.
